Mission

The San Francisco State University School of Nursing aims to motivate and educate undergraduate and graduate nursing students to meet the healthcare needs of individuals, families, and communities. Faculty has a passion for teaching using a rich variety of educational methods. We embrace the diversity of our student population, and are committed to educating nurses who serve diverse populations with a focus on social and environmental justice, and health equality. Furthermore, we incorporate evidence-based nursing knowledge, ethical decision-making, and sound clinical judgment into our educational paradigm. Using various educational modalities that include state of the art information technologies, students learn how to provide safe, quality patient-centered care. Our students are prepared to adapt to changing healthcare needs and environments and to serve society through civic engagement and lifelong learning.

The School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).

    Students and alumni at your RN training program are invited to participate in the CMD Virtual Career Fair for California Registered Nurses, taking place online Thursday, November 14. Practicing RNs as well as students currently enrolled in RN training programs within the state are encouraged to pre-register. This digital recruiting event brings together hospitals, healthcare systems, and practice groups seeking Registered Nurses for immediate hire across California. Employers signed-up to recruit RNs for open positions within the state include Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, and more. On November 14, RNs who have pre-registered will receive an invitation link to enter the virtual fair, and will be able to review in-state job opportunities from the convenience of their phones, laptops, or tablets until midnight. RNs interested in further introducing themselves to employers across the state may also submit their resumes for inclusion in the California Registered Nurse Resume Book, which will be distributed to all participating employers.     UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland is pleased to offer an Ava Elliott, Nursing Student Scholarship. This scholarship is coordinated by the Staff Education and Development Department and is available to nursing students who are either: 1.) Are enrolled in other RN baccalaureate programs (e.g. accelerated program for those who currently hold another baccalaureate degree). Minorities are encouraged to apply. Established in 1992, the fund provides assistance for education costs related to nursing. The award is granted based upon application approval, a written statement of the student’s career goals, academic references and is scored objectively by an evaluation committee.
