We are an AHA training site located in Southern California ( Costa Mesa and San Diego ) that also offers AWHONN Intermediate and Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring and AAP NRP skills. In addition to our AHA and AAP certification classes, we also offer a complete Maternal Child New Grad Training Program. For the last several years we have had the pleasure of assisting new grad nurses and nursing students add to their skill sets and build their resumes to attain a coveted position in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum or the NICU. These courses also assist nursing students that are starting an externship or preceptorship in OB. We have an AAP NRP skills course that is tailored specifically for the new graduate nurse or nursing student. During these special skills certifications, students will be doing NRP skills only with other nurses certifying for the first time. This allows for a positive and supportive learning environment as we break down the concepts of neonatal resuscitation in scenarios suited for the inexperienced nurse. Our AAP NRP certification course, along with some of our other popular courses ( including the Baby Friendly USA certification ), will be offered again in the Bay Area from March 21st through 23rd. We will be returning to Sacramento on March 25th for the AAP NRP certification for the new grad nurse. Please visit our website at www.nursesed.net.

The need for Spanish-speaking nurses, doctors and other healthcare workers can hardly be exaggerated in Northern California. Now an exciting plan to address this has emerged, and you will want to know about it. Bay Area Nursing programs and Community Colleges will send 20 students to Cuenca, Ecuador, for four weeks this summer for an intensive, health-care-focused homestay/Spanish-language-immersion program called Salud (health). Students will spend their mornings in Spanish immersion classes at varying levels, including medical vocabulary integration and conversation in medical contexts. Afternoons and evenings will be time for students to spend with their Ecuadorian host families, as well as in visits to local public and private clinics and hospitals, with a variety of medical specializations. The culmination of the four-week program will be the ultimate medical Spanish immersion experience: 20 hours of doctor-shadowing in their daily rounds. Rather than a conventional Spanish-language improvement program, Salud is specifically intended for those pursuing or considering a career in health care. Many students who speak Spanish at home will find the training extremely valuable in that it will familiarize them with the specific vocabulary used in the healthcare field and provide them the opportunity for real-life immersion in that context. The entire program -- including tuition, homestay, meals, clinic and hospital rounds, excursions and travel within Ecuador -- will be just $2,850 per student, plus airfare to-and-from Quito, which is estimated to be around $800. So, $3,650 includes just about everything: instruction, excursions, hospital and clinic visits and observations, full room and board homestay accommodations, and even airfare. Let’s serve our Spanish-speaking patients in their first language, which common sense tells us -- and studies confirm -- will result in better care for the Latino Community. Attached, you will find a pdf, which on one side has the entire, day-by-day program for the 4-weeks.

We are interested in gaining medical volunteers for our upcoming races. We would love to have students out to our events. It's a fun experience and great networking opportunity for everyone involved. Medical volunteers will be stationed throughout the race course at designated aid stations and at the main medical finish line tent. The students will be supervised at all times at every race. Each station they are placed at will have a station captain, which is going to be a licensed provider. We draw volunteers from around the bay area, so our captains can be RNs, NPs, PAs, MDs, etc., from a variety of different facilities. Usually from UCSF, Stanford, Kaiser, ZSFG, and a variety of local schools. We also operate heavily with certified athletic trainers at each race. Most main medical tents and aid stations will have at least one athletic trainer, which helps add a different specialty into the mix. For student credit, Dr. Anthony Luke and I can always write a letter certifying volunteer hours, or sign off on a volunteer sheet. Attached below is a signup link for the upcoming race and save-the-dates for others in the year. The UCSF Race medical team is asking for your support on March 22, 2020 to help at the Napa Valley Women's Half Marathon and 5K https://www.iracesafe.com/registration/volunteer?race_id=634 Read Less
